A screen that gets opened every Monday
Not the dashboard that impresses in the presentation, but the one a leadership team opens out of habit because it changes their week.

The problem it solves
Almost all executive dashboards die the same way. They are built with enthusiasm, presented once, watched for three weeks, and afterwards opened only when someone outside asks a question.
They do not die because of the tool. They die because they were designed to display rather than to decide: too many numbers, none with a threshold, none with an owner, and no meeting where looking at them had consequences. A dashboard without a forum is a report with charts.
There is also a design failure that repeats: mixing what the owner watches with what the head of operations watches on one screen. They serve different purposes, and combining them produces a screen that serves neither.
What it covers
This is a build workshop and you leave with the design done, not with concepts. The starting point is the decision, not the data: for each block of the dashboard you write which decision it supports and who takes it.
The work runs through four layers. What belongs on the leadership screen and what drops to an area screen. What shape each number takes — level, trend or comparison — because the wrong shape hides precisely what needed to be seen. Which threshold turns it into a topic. And in which specific meeting it gets read, how often, and who answers for it.
Nothing is implemented here. The deliverable is the complete design, on paper, ready for whoever has to build it, with the criteria written down so it does not drift on the way.
What participants learn
- Tie each dashboard block to a decision and to the person who takes it.
- Separate the leadership screen from the area screens.
- Choose the right shape for each number: level, trend or comparison.
- Set thresholds that turn a number into a conversation.
- Anchor the dashboard to an existing meeting with an owner and a cadence.
Agenda
- Why an executive dashboard dies
- One decision per block: the inclusion criterion
- Leadership screen versus area screen
- Level, trend and comparison: when each shape applies
- Thresholds and the conversation attached to them
- The forum: where it is read and with what consequence
- How many numbers a genuinely-read screen can hold
- What to hand whoever is going to build it
What the organisation leaves with
- The complete executive dashboard design, block by block.
- A written threshold and owner for every block.
- The split made between leadership screen and area screens.
- A written brief for whoever implements it technically.

Frequently asked questions
- Do we leave with a working dashboard?
- No. You leave with the complete design and a written brief; technical implementation is later work and depends on your systems. Promising an implementation in one session would be selling something that cannot be delivered.
- Do our data need to be in order first?
- It helps, but it is not required. If a block has no data available, it still gets designed and is flagged as pending capture, which is valuable information in itself.
- Can the technical team come on their own?
- We do not recommend it. Whoever decides what goes on the dashboard is whoever will decide with it. A dashboard designed without leadership in the room ends up being the builder's dashboard.
